About 1880 the family went to Bennington, Kansas.  Referring to the trip, Perry McBeth said, "Father took his family, Bertha was just a baby, I was about 10 years old, also Uncle John McBeth, a half brother of Andrew's and went to Bennington, Kansas.  It took 37 days by ox team to make the trip.  Father bought a lot (I wonder how large a piece of land this was)  but stayed only 8 months, sold out and came home to VanBuren Indiana".

In September, 1888 the family moved from White Pigeon, Mi. to  Riverside, Ca.  They had auctioned off everything on the farm to get money to come to California.  He had about $900.  It took them 8 days by train to make the trip.
