Ellis Garlitz Obituary

 

Ellis Clarence Garlitz, 86, of Avilton, Md. died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at his home.

Born May 3, 1920, in Avilton, where he was raised and lived his entire life, he was the son of the late Orville J. and Mallia (Bardon) Garlitz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian A. (Kemp) Garlitz, March 10, 2004, three brothers, Norris “Joe”, Paul and Leonard Garlitz and one sister, Inez Michaels.

Mr. Garlitz was a retired conveyor operator for Cumberland Cement and Supply Co. and was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 453. He was a member of Old St. Ann’s Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW 2, and was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. Ellis enjoyed fishing, gardening, WW 2 history, woodworking, politics, snowmobiling and reminiscing about childhood memories. He was much loved, especially by his grandchildren.

He is survived by five sons, Paul Garlitz and David Garlitz, both of Avilton; Robert Garlitz, Sheffield Lake, Ohio; Dale Garlitz, Missoula, Montana; Jack Garlitz, Cumberland; one daughter, Elaine Meyers, Oakland; one sister, Lillian Kemp, Sheffield Lake, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, Md. on Wednesday 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ty Hullinger officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
